This weeks’ topic for reflection is turning the page. As the new year is upon us it’s natural to reflect on last year and the expectation of what’s to come. There’s a sense of letting go of what was and how we wanted things to go and have expectations for the future.
As we turn the page, we are also turned by it. A sift is taking place. We are each shifting as individuals as the whole world is shifting around us. Take some time to notice how you are shifting, turning into a new phase of your life. In some situations there is opportunity for choice and preference. With somethings there is no choice as the situation is a given. While the particular situation can be a given, we always have the option of choosing our response. How do you see yourself and your function and place? Where do you want to be coming from in your response?
Everything is fundamentally new and changing or evolving. Staying the same is dependent on memory and is merely an idea. Being old is just now arriving and it’s changing and evolving. Old is a new gift and with it comes the opportunity to let go. Let go of the way it was and work with the way it is. To shift and turn while being turned. To see, care and respond. This is an opportunity to trust, be patient and humble. Being Buddha is nothing special. Being the natural flow and functioning of life and death. What we are is changing and evolving. Ungraspable with nothing to grasp it with. Yet we cling to I, me, mine.
Letting go is not needed if we’re not clinging. The pages of our life are turning, always. As they turn us, we are free to turn them. Turning, choosing, shifting, changing, new. Welcome, New Year.
